I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist in Oakland who specializes in working with children, teens, young adults and families.
I have worked in a variety of settings including community mental health clinics, hospital settings, and 8 years providing services in school based settings.
I especially enjoy working with people with complex presenting problems including: trauma exposure, aggressive behavior, difficulties with affect regulation, attention problems, academic failure, developmental delays, and impaired interpersonal relationships. I focus on utilizing a child's strengths to help them improve their emotional, behavioral and psychosocial functioning. I have extensive experience collaborating with schools and families to help children reach their maximum potential academically, emotionally, and socially.
I have additional training and experience with Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to support young people in improving their ability to manage their emotions, improve their relationships and create a life worth living.
I am very interested in the impact that culture and acculturation have on the development of a child. My year studying in France not only helped me become proficient in French, but I also learned more about myself, my own culture and had the opportunity to experience acculturation first hand. When working with people from diverse backgrounds I pay attention to the role that ethnicity, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status play in the life of a child and their family. I also pay attention to the ways in which my own race, power and privilege impact services so that we can have an honest, supportive dialogue to provide better services.
